The Senate of Pakistan and Islamic Medical Association of North America (IMANA) signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for providing relief and rehabilitation of the quake victims.

According to statement issued here on Monday by the Senate Secretariat, the Islamic Medical Association of North America, in response to the call of the earthquake victims approached Senate Chairman Muhammadmian Soomro and the Senate Secretariat for assistance in its desire of providing relief and rehabilitation of the quake survivors.

The Senate Secretariat and Imana, after visiting the quake-hit areas of Muzaffarabad, Bagh, Rawalakot, Balakot, and Mansehra decided to cooperate and work on improving the quality of medical and social services available in Pakistan; to plan strategies for the long-term alleviation of sufferings caused by the October 8 earthquake and promote transfer of medical skills to Pakistan's medical institutions.

Under the MoU, the Senate Secretariat would assist Imana to set up rehabilitation facilities in the quake-hit areas and provide limbs, medicines, and other equipment to quake victims.

It would also assist Imana in its efforts to upgrade health care at the hospitals.
